Singita Castleton found in the heart of the Sabi Sand offers a new concept of exclusivity and lifestyle safari. A private and intimate lodge, Singita Castleton is designed as the ultimate customised rental, with accommodation in six individual cottages complemented by a swimming pool, wine cellar, gym, tennis court and spa. Castleton retains the inviting, soulful ambience and elegance of the original camp in a series of revitalised spaces that encourages relaxation, togetherness, and a deep engagement with nature.
Living spaces extend outdoors onto broad verandas overlooking a watering hole where animals gather to drink and a country style kitchen draws guests into the heart of the home. Reminiscent of an African farmhouse, richly detailed interiors in a neutral palette contrast with traditional tartans and classic prints creating an unbuttoned, lived-in appeal. Botanical art references, luxurious bedding, country furniture and flagstone floors add a nostalgic, time-honoured ambience to the whole.
HOW TO GET THERE? Daily flight from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Nelspruit (KMIA). Multiple daily scheduled flights from Nelspruit to Singita.
SPECIAL INTEREST: The Singita wine collection is the largest private collection on the continent. The Sabi Sands is renowned for its Leopard and predator viewing.
The best time for photography is from May – November when the grass is not as lush, but the bush is the most alive during summer just after the rains.
The game drives are all conducted in state-of-the-art Land Rovers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests. During your stay at Singita Sabi Sand, you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife including leopard, lion, rhino, large herds of buffalo, elephant, reedbuck, hyena, hippopotamus, nyala, cheetah, wild dogs and many species of birds.
“Just over a week into my safari and I wonder how I’ve changed, if at all. Certainly the experiences I’ve had and things I’ve seen have shaped me in someway. But then, as if by some ancient, unspeakable memory, I remember… it’s in my blood.”
