South Africa
The diversity of beauty are echoed in the countries people, culture and history.
South Africa has an abundance of wildlife and scenery, from the sandy beaches, sheer, forest-covered cliffs, and amazing marine life of its coastline to arid deserts, peak-filled mountain ranges and open bushveld savannah.
This diversity of habitats is echoed in the country’s peoples and history. The first human inhabitants (the San people) and the powerful civilisations of Mapungubwe and Thulamela of a thousand years ago have given way to a 21st-century country filled with a colourful mixture of people and cultures, a heady history and a natural heritage that has South Africans defining their land as “a world in one country.” Cape Town was voted #1 city in the world to visit in 2015 and 2016!
South Africa is a country of undeniable character and beauty, whose offerings range from the world-famous attractions both natural and historical, to the less well-known, hidden gems.
This unique paradise has a rich history and is celebrating its 20-year freedom since the landmark elections of 1994. The country’s colonial history is also fascinating, and there are aesthetic remnants to be seen today, of a time of Dutch explorers, spice routes, great discoveries, migrations and treks across unknown lands. Of course, as well as the diverse range of wildlife spots and pristine wilderness areas, there are historical and political attractions that are not to be missed, and only by combining these various elements, can one truly get a sense of the rich character of this magnificent country.
South Africa’s climatic conditions generally range from Mediterranean in the southwestern corner of the country, towards the cape, to temperate in the interior plateau, and subtropical in the northeast. A small area in the northwest has a desert climate. Most of the country has warm, sunny days and cool nights.
